Solution Overview IBM Lotus Web Content Management (LWCM)
There are a number of Web content management solutions out there but few combine the flexibility, affordability, and power of Lotus Web Content Management.
IBM Lotus Web Content Management software comes in two varieties, one for small and medium-sized business and the other for large organizations.
- IBM Lotus Web Content Management Standard Edition is an entry level offering for small to medium-sized businesses that has a limited license for 20 content authors, publishers and a total of 400 processor value units maximum, and allows only a single hardware server to serve content for a live site. This offering is competitively priced and is a perfect alternative for people who want a departmental or smaller deployment than is required by larger organizations.
- The full version of IBM Lotus Web Content Management has the same features as the Standard Edition but is not limited by license and is appropriate for large and very large enterprises.
IBM delivers an end-to-end Web content management solution that leverages IBM WebSphere Portal technology. IBM Lotus Web Content Management is a product that integrates with and leverages IBM WebSphere Application Server and WebSphere Portal.
The Java Edition of Lotus Web Content Management consists of a servlet and a set of portlets that reside on the WebSphere Portal Server. A Web client request can come through the Web server plug-in or directly to the embedded HTTP server within WebSphere Application Server. The page is rendered and passed back to the client. User authentication and management is currently administered using the WebSphere Portal Member Manager.

You use Lotus Web Content Management to create and manage Web content for internet, intranet, extranet and portal sites. You also use Web Content Management to present Web content to users in a portlet or Web site, including content managed by Document Manager or generated by Personalization.
You create the design of Web pages separately from the content of Web pages allowing different users with different skills to work independently. The structure of your Web site, and the links between the pages in a site, are automatically generated by Lotus Web Content Management based on the profile of each content item. You use the access control and workflow features of Lotus Web Content Management to control the creation and approval process of Web content.
IBM Lotus Web Content Management is a flexible, scalable, and configurable Web content management system with a portlet-style front end that seamlessly integrates into the IBM Lotus and IBM WebSphere Portal environment. It is an open, standards-based product, including J2EE, which uses a point-and-click interface that gives your staff an instant way to find and personalize essential enterprise information instead of waiting indefinitely for it to be extracted from a multitude of repositories, systems, and obscure applications by overworked developers, and create their own portlets fast.
Advanced, rules-based personalization capabilities allow targeted information to be dynamically delivered to your employees, customers, suppliers, and partners via the WebSphere Portal environment. Enhanced authoring and administration capabilities allow Web content to be created and delivered more easily and effectively.
